The Project, Early Days
Five local Ballater residents took it upon themselves to return Box 472 to its original condition.
The five interested Ballater residents ( Tony Bass, Alistair Cassie, John Holley, Martin Holroyd and Derek North) held informal meetings in order to fomulate their next moves. Many hours were spent researching information via the internet re history and colours required to bring Box 472 back to its former glory.
A 'to do' list and rota was drawn up as some of the group were still working and only available spasmodically. Some of the paint required had to be ordered specially and in the case of the yellow, mixed exactly to achieve the required tone.
July 2009
As you will see from the pictures below taken at the beginning of July 2009 Box 472 was beginning to show serious signs of throwing in the towel, the area surrounding the box was also in dire need of some serious TLC.
FROM THIS
Early July 2009, Box 472 was not looking in good health and in a poor state of repair, the effects of 60+ years of severe North East Scottish weather was beginning to take its toll, something had to be done!
